Scott Brooks says Lakers have to 'play the game' to win – NBA News
The Los Angeles Lakers underwent a huge roster change this offseason, parting ways with centre Andrew Bynum, and adding point guard Steve Nash and Dwight Howard to the team.
The additions have made the Lakers stronger than ever, having the best team in the league, even if only on paper. After landing two superstars who are legends at their respective positions, along with Kobe Bryant, the Lakers immediately became the favourites to reach the NBA Finals next season out of the Western Conference.
The addition of the Lakers has impacted the Oklahoma City Thunder the most, among all the teams in the West. The Thunder are the reigning Western Conference Champions, and were billed to rule the West for years to come.
However, the Lakers did the impossible when it comes to team rebuilding, and the Thunder’s crown and their future has become uncertain all of a sudden. While the Lakers were adding superstars during the summer, Thunder kept their team unchanged, resigning Serge Ibaka on a contract extension. Ever since the Lakers have upgraded their roster, the Thunder team have been asked the question of whether they think they can still make it out of the West for the NBA Finals, and all of them have shrugged aside any doubts that they can beat the Lakers.
The most recent of the Thunder representative to be asked the question was the Thunder Head Coach, Scott Brooks. He was asked the same question as many have been asked regarding the Lakers.
“They were a good team before. With Howard, he’s one of the best players in the league. … The league will have its work cut out. But you have to play the games. Nobody in this league is going to give anybody a game,” said Brooks.
Brooks reply clearly shows the mindset of the Thunder team as they approach next season. They know that the Lakers have a great roster, but also realize that this is their first season together. The Thunder, on the other hand, is a more organized team relying on team work. They are not scared of the Lakers and are ready for the challenge next season.
