Oklahoma City Thunder coach says he would like to have the veteran presence of Derek Fisher around his young core....
Over the past few years, Oklahoma City Thunder have risen through the NBA ranks at a rapid pace and have made significant progress with each passing season. From being the team which only won 23 games in their first season, the
Thunder have gone on to become one of the most dominating teams in the NBA and making to the NBA Finals last season is mere proof of their accomplishments.
Even though they were not able to get past the mighty Miami Heat but with their system of relying on young athletic stars, they certainly are on the right path in their bid to go all the way.
Much of the success that has come for OKC has been because of the ‘Fantastic Four’ including Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Serge Ibaka. But there is no doubt that the role players have also played a key role
in that spectacular run. Scott Brooks, the OKC coach, is one man who firmly believes that and in a recent interview, he especially gave credit to Derek Fisher who spent last season with the Thunder.
“Derek Fisher, just being around him, I can tell why he's loved by so many people and why the Lakers won so many championships," Brooks said. "He puts everything he has into every possession, every practice and every game. In our
practices, he is 37 and he did everything we asked, every drill and every possession. He practices every day. It was great. I don't think we could've gone as far as we did without him. I thought he was terrific and I love him. I really have a lot of respect
for him."
Whether OKC is looking to bring the veteran back that still remains to be seen but to Brooks having Fisher return to the Thunder would be a great thing. Even though Sam Presti and co. haven’t approached the 38 year old yet, Brooks
believes that there is still a chance the point guard might be back at OKC. He however made it clear that the final decision lied with Presti;
"There still is," Brooks said. "Everything is still fluid."
There have been some reports that the Thunder are likely to offer Fisher a veteran’s minimum. No concrete deal has come forth as of yet though and the veteran point guard still remains a free agent.
