Scott Brown climbs the summit snatching second round lead at Rex Hospital Open on Nationwide Tour
Scott Brown, the 28-year-old South Carolina native, finally made his move on the second day of the Rex Hospital Open on the Nationwide Tour to grab the lead, when he equaled the course record set at eight-under, 63.
The young golfer had a disappointing day on the course yesterday, when he was moving steadily to grab the lead, but dropped several shots before closing his round in the evening.
“Yesterday I threw a round away. I played really good and made one bad swing,” he said. “I knew I had a good one in me today if I could come out and do the same things over again.”
Brown had earlier stumbled on a bogey in the front nine in his first round and made the turn to face a disastrous double bogey at par-3, 16th and another bogey on the next hole to settle for two-under. He most definitely had a separate game-plan
for the second day as he went over a rampage to cast no less than eight birdies to get the better of the field by one shot.
“I think it's just one of those courses that fits my eye,” he said. “It's got big greens and it's kind of a big course but you've really got to place it around the greens in the right spots. I've been fortunate enough to putt well here.”
Brown’s best results for the season came in the Pacific Rubiales Bogota Open where he ended up tied for the third. Rest of the season so far, has been more of a disappointment for the young American.
Making his debut in 2009, Brown is still looking for his maiden victory on the Nationwide Tour and hopes to get through the strong Rex Hospital Open field this year. He started of last year with a record-equaling round of nine-under but much to his despise,
finished for the 54th in the rain-shortened final round.
“I worked on it hard this week and it looks like I got something good going right so far,” he said of his putting. “It seemed to be more of a speed thing than anything else.”
American Martin Flores came out to be outright second with his round of four-under and is trailing the leader by one shot. Kyle Thompson and Ryan Armour are tied for the third spot with their scores of eight-under each.
