Scott Clary captures Men’s 400m IM gold: Day two - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Scott T Clary of Fast Swim Team-C captured gold medal of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Saturday, June 2.
The Santa Clara meet is of considerable importance as it offers an opportunity to elite swimmers to compete with each other and find out their deficiencies before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 23-year-old Clary demonstrated his stupendous efforts throughout the discipline and completed his first round of the swim with the timing of 58.22 seconds.
He faced strong battle from Joshua C Prenot of Santa Maria Swim, who stayed nearly 1.50 seconds apart and covered the equivalent distance with an effort of 59.80 seconds.
With his persistent efforts, Clary strengthened his position for gold medal in the second round as he touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.68 seconds.
He was trailed by 18-year-old Prenot, who remained nearly six seconds apart and ended his first half of the race by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 07.29 seconds.
Clary continued his smothering efforts in the third round, where he sustained his pace and touched the wall with the timing of 3 minutes and 15.69 seconds.
He remained nearly four seconds ahead of his strongest competitor, Prenot, who concluded his initial 300 metres of the race by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 19.09 seconds.
The last round saw ruthless aggression of Clary, who made a significant improvement in his pace and ensured his place on the top of podium for gold medal with the timing of 4 minutes and 15.02 seconds.
The champion was followed by Prenot, who suffered a deficit of nearly three seconds and settled on the finishing blockade as second position holder by clocking a time of 4 minutes and 18.77 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was obtained by Clary’s teammate, Robert J Margalis, who transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 21.02 seconds.
In addition, the position holders raked medals for their alluring efforts in the 400m event after the session.
