Scott Clary wins Men’s 200m back-stroke preliminary meet: Day five – 2011 FINA World Championships
United States’ Scott Clary captured the attention of the crowd due to his sparkling splash on day five of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Wednesday, July 27.
The session of the championship organised the Men’s 200m back-stroke preliminary meet, where Clary produced a stunning swim and won the heat with a sterling time of 1 minute and 56.32 seconds.
Previously, Scott won the silver medal in the Men’s 400m medley final at the 2009 edition of the championship, in Rome. Besides, Clary snared one silver and two bronze medals at the 2010 edition of the meet, in Dubai. The current win has put Clary in a strong
position to win his first ever gold medal at the championships.
Meanwhile, Peter Bernek of Hungary wound up second in a time of 1 minute and 57.23 seconds, while Stanislav Donets of Russia rounded out the top-three swimmers in a time of 1 minute and 57.30 seconds.
Ryan Lochte of United States secured the fourth spot in 1 minute and 57.34 seconds. Earlier, Lochte won the golden crown in the Men’s 200m freestyle meet in the current edition of the championships. More importantly, Ryan snared six gold medals at the 2010
edition of the meet, in Dubai. Additionally, he grabbed three gold medals at the 2004 and 2008 edition of the Olympic Games, in Athens and Beijing, respectively.
In the meantime, Fenglin Zhang of China finished fifth in a time of 1 minute and 57.37 seconds, whereas, Ryosuke Irie of Japan was placed sixth with a time of 1 minute and 57.58 seconds. Kazuki Watanabe of Japan settled seventh in a time of 1 minute and
57.62 seconds.
Subsequently, Radoslaw of Kawecki of Poland grabbed the eighth spot in the respective meet with a time of 1 minute and 57.97 seconds, while Nick Driebergen of Netherlands finished ninth in a time of 1 minute and 58.10 seconds. Tobias Oriwol of Canada was
placed tenth after he ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 58.19 seconds.
