Scott Coolbaugh believes Rangers will ease into offensive role at Rangers Ballpark
Texas Rangers hitting Coach Scott Coolbaugh took the opportunity on Friday, October 21, to talk about the squad’s hitting flow. Following the two games at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis, the Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals look set on entering Game 3
of the World Series at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Both teams have managed to square the series and there is expectation for a heated affair to translate in front of the Lone Star faithful.
Coolbaugh knows that the Club’s hitters have yet to hit well in the game but there remains the idea that the squad has familiarized itself with the bullpen pitchers that the hitters have faced in two games. While Texas reliever Alexi Ogando has given up
RBI singles in two different games against Allen Craig, the Rangers did their work against Cards closer, Jason Motte, to win Game 2 in the ninth inning with two runs.
Coolbaugh understands that the Rangers may not be in the right position to handle the starters but they can do very well against a recurring cast of relievers.
"The only thing I saw with us was the unfamiliarity factor with their pitchers," Scott Coolbaugh said. "You get a lot of information on the opposing pitchers and look at a lot of film, but when you haven't seen Chris Carpenter and you haven't seen Jaime
Garcia, it's something we have to overcome.
"It was the same situation with [rookie pitcher] Matt Moore and Tampa Bay, but now guys have a feel for their pitchers, they've seen their relievers. I think that will help their comfort level and we'll be able to make our adjustments quicker."
The Rangers lost their first game, 3 – 2, but they struck back in Game 2 with two sacrifice flies to gain a 2 – 1 game victory. There is expectation that the Cards and the Texans will give their fans a blitzing display from the plate but it still has to
be seen whether that happens or not.
Both teams require three more wins to lift the final prize. If any one of them wins three of those encounters in a straight flush, they would avoid going back to St. Louis for Game 6.
