Scott Diamond helps Minnesota Twins crush Detroit Tigers 10-4 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins hammered the Detroit Tigers 10-4 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, September 23 in second game of their three match series.
Tigers had an excellent chance to get back to the top of the American League Central standings but they looked very rusty on Sunday evening. Despite taking the loss, Tigers are just one game behind the Chicago White Sox at the top of standings table and
it will be interesting to see if they can finally put things back on the right track to win their second straight AL Central title.
Twins, on the other hand, executed their game plan to perfection to outclass their opponents in almost all departments of the game. Starting pitcher Scott Diamond produced a match winning performance as he gave up just four hits and two runs in seven solid
innings to claim his 12th win of the season. Striking-out five batters, he created all sorts of problems for the inform Tigers’ batting line-up.
Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau displayed some top quality hitting skills to level the score 2-2 in the sixth inning. Trevor Plouffe and Endy Escobar gave the Twins complete control of the situation as they drove in vital runs. Ben Revere also made a useful
contribution with the bat.
"When I walked Austin Jackson, I realized that if I didn't get Infante, I was going to have to face Miguel Cabrera with two runners on base," Diamond said. "That's a dangerous situation."
"After my last couple starts, I've worked really hard on keeping the ball down in the zone," he said between games. "Today, I was able to execute my pitches where I wanted them."
"We put together three great innings in a row and got ourselves a win," Gardenhire said. "At this point in the season, that's great to see."
Credit should be given to the Twins’ offence that made the most of scoring opportunities in a crucial American League Central Division contest. Manager Ron Washington will be expecting his men to continue their brilliant form to give the fans something to
cheer about in these closing stages of the season.
