Scott Diamond helps Minnesota Twins flatten Chicago White Sox 18-9 – MLB Update

Minnesota Twins crushed the Chicago White Sox 18-9 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, September 4 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.

Twins’ starting pitcher Scott Diamond produced a decent performance as he gave up just seven hits and four runs in five solid innings to grab his 11th win of the season. Anthony Swarzak allowed four hits and four runs in two plus innings to keep
White Sox on the defensive.

"I can't complain, that's for sure," Diamond said in a post game interview.

"I'm just more excited to pitch again after the suspension and everything," he further added. "It was good to get back out there. It definitely felt like I had extra juice flowing."

Chicago’s starter Jose Quintana was hit hard in his 1.1 innings of start as he gave up five hits and seven runs to take his fourth loss of the season.

Relief pitcher Dylan Axelrod conceded two runs in 2.2 innings and Philip Humber paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound, allowing eight runs and seven hits in just 0.1 innings.

Ryan Doumit and Chris Parmelee hit home-runs for the Twins.

"Balls were flying all over the place, as they always do in this ballpark," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Fortunately, we were on the good side of it. That's crazy. We've seen it here before."

"Everyone contributed up and down our lineup. That's a beautiful thing," Josh Willingham said.

The White Sox secured a comfortable 4-2 in series opener and they were looking to take a decisive 2-0 lead on Tuesday but Minnesota had other ideas.

Using the conditions to great effect, the Twins stacked up a huge total on the board. Credit should be given to Chicago for putting up a solid fight right until the end but the Twins were too hot to handle at U.S. Cellular Field.

Robin Ventura and company had an excellent chance to move two games ahead of Detroit Tigers at the top of American League Central Division standings but they were unable to live up to the expectations.
