Scott Dickens conquers Men’s 100m breaststroke heats: Day one - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Scott Dickens of VAND conquered the preliminary rounds of Men’s 100m breaststroke on foremost day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Tuesday, March 27.
The 27-year-old Dickens outsmarted his competitors in a comfortable fashion and qualified into the final round as hot favourite for gold medal. He is now just a step away from earning his berth in the Canadian squad to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Dickens stunned the arena with his invincible effort in the prelims, where he tapped the finishing wall in a fastest time of 1 minute and 00.39 seconds.
His tremendous effort was followed by Richard Funk of EKSC, who stayed almost one second behind and entered the playoff as second best swimmer by clocking a time of 1 minute and 01.21 seconds.
Jason Block of UCSC remained just one and a half stroke behind him and settled on the finishing wall as third fastest swimmer by posting a time of 1 minute and 01.42 seconds. Block remained 0.93 seconds ahead of TSC’s Warren Barnes, who followed him on the
concluding wall with the fourth best timing of 1 minute and 02.35 seconds.
In the meantime, Katerine Savard of CSQ excelled in the qualification rounds of Women’s 100m butterfly. The 18-year-old Savard stayed considerably faster from her challengers throughout the event and made her way into the final round with the timing of 58.55
seconds.
She was followed by Caroline Kuczynski of PCSC, who stayed 1.10 seconds slower from her former finisher and transpired on the wall with the timing of 59.65 seconds. Kuczynski stayed just 0.05 seconds lucky from her following swimmer, MacKenzie Downing of
WGB, who surfaced on the wall as third best swimmer by submitting a time of 59.70 seconds.
Downing remained 0.06 seconds ahead of Kendra Chernoff of UA, who ended her swim in fourth place by reporting 59.76 seconds on the board.
In addition, the arena enjoyed magnificent efforts of all contestants in their exclusive events while these qualifying swimmers will compete with each other in the next round, where top two finishers will qualify for London Games.
