Scott Dickens earns Men’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day three - 2012 Canada Swimming Cup
Scott Dickens of Pacific Dolphins Swim Club earned gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on third day of the 2012 Canada Swimming Cup in Montreal on Saturday, July 7.
The 27-year-old Dickens faced no competition from his challengers from the start of the race. He gained a prominent lead over his challengers in the first half and with his relentless efforts, reached the finishing wall for gold medal.
He continued his dominance over his rivals throughout the swim and tapped the finishing wall for gold medal with an effort of 1 minute and 00.91 seconds.
The champion remained 2.20 seconds faster from his immediate contender, Barry J Murphy of Club Wolverine, who stepped on the victory stand for second position by clocking a time of 1 minute and 03.11 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by his teammate, Kyle W Whitaker, who stayed 0.76 seconds apart and made his way to the finishing blockade as bronze medallist by producing a time of 1 minute and 03.87 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Kyle M Duckitt of Club Wolverine, who stayed 0.23 seconds slower from overwhelming the third position holder and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 04.10 seconds.
Duckitt remained just 0.05 seconds ahead of Warren Barnes of Toronto Swim Club, who settled on the finishing end as fifth position holder of the discipline by submitting a time of 1 minute and 04.15 seconds.
The 26-year-old Barnes was chased by Hugues Patry of MEGO, who remained only 0.32 seconds behind and submitted an effort of 1 minute and 04.47 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the discipline was obtained by Alexander J Gianino of Badger Swim Club, who stayed nearly full body length behind and reported a time of 1 minute and 05.24 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was obtained by Matthew Stephenson of Guelph Marlins Aquatic Club, who remained nearly 0.70 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 05.91 seconds.
In addition, Dickens expressed contentment over his accomplishment in the 100m discipline at the medal distribution ceremony of the championship.
