Scott Dickens triumphs Men’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day one - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Scott Dickens of VAND triumphs gold medal of the Men’s 100m breaststroke on initial day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Tuesday, March 27.
The Canadian Trials is a six-day swimming event, which is subject to complete their national team that will participate at the forthcoming 2012 London Olympics.
Dickens, who entered the playoff as top contender for gold medal, continued his nerve-wracking pace in the final round and stifled hopes of his challengers by hitting the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 00.43 seconds.
He was followed by Richard Funk of EKSC, who stayed nearly one second slower from him and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by ending his swim in 1 minute and 01.27 seconds.
Jason Block of UCSC proved his mettle for the third position of the discipline as he suffered a loss of 0.27 seconds from Funk and tapped the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 01.54 seconds.
Block was chased by Paul Kornfeld of UCSC, who occupied fourth position of the discipline by completing his swim in a time of 1 minute and 02.23 seconds.
After wards, the audience witnessed fascinating efforts of Nathan Stein S10SB9SM10 in the Men’s 100m breaststroke Para SB4-14. Stein stayed almost two strokes ahead of his strongest competitor and earned his way to the top of podium for gold medal by posting
1 minute and 13.91 seconds.
He was followed by M Heath S14SB14SM14 of WAAC, who stayed 0.21 seconds slower from achieving gold medal of the discipline as he posted a time of 1 minute 14.12 seconds.
Heath was chased by I Bouckley S10SB9SM10 of WD, who settled on the finishing end for bronze medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 14.81 seconds. The third position holder was trailed by M Rousselle S14SB14SM14 of CNHR, who completed his race in a time
of 1 minute and 15.87 seconds for fourth spot.
The session ended after the completion of all listed events while the podium finishers were invited on the victory stand at medal ceremony of the championship.
