Scott Donaldson joins Eden Sharav, Ross Muir and Michael Leslie for European Tour
Scotland’s young potter, Scott Donaldson, will be leaving for Eastern Europe to join the teammates, Eden Sharav, Ross Muir and Michael Leslie.
Donaldson, along with his team members, will take part in back-to-back European snooker events of 2012 European Under-21 Snooker Championships and 2012 European Under-21 Team Snooker Championships at the Dedeman Princess Sofia hotel in Bulgaria. Donaldson
is aiming to grab the U21 European title and earn a place in the professional tour.
Last year, 100 amateurs made their way into the 2011-12 Professional Tour. This year, 128 new professionals will try their luck in the next two snooker seasons. Increasing the number of pro tour card winners will not only boost the viewership of the sport
but will also attract many young snooker players from around the world.
The winner of U21 European Championship will get a place in the professional tour. Last year, Poland’s Kacper Filipiak booked his spot in the 2011-12 Snooker Tour. Donaldson will be leaving for Bulgaria with the same goal in the mind.
Speaking to the local media, Donaldson said, “The winner of the U21 European title will bag a ticket into the professional tour for 2012/13 so that is a huge incentive for everyone. It’s certainly my aim going to Sofia. It’s my biggest ever tournament. I
won’t change my routine. It has been serving me well so far, so why tinker with it now?”
He added, “It is all about confidence and that is really high after winning two Scottish titles. It’s an event I’m really looking forward to. It’s my first Euro U21 championship and it’s great news that I have retained my spot for the Team Championships
which follow the U21 event.”
World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn launched this new method of giving an opportunity to international amateur snooker players to show their talent in world class snooker events.
The players are selected from different platforms such as IBSF World Snooker Championship, IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Championship, ACBS Asian Snooker Championship, European Under-21 Snooker Championship, Q School, WPBSA Wild Card Entries and the National
Governing Bodies (NGBs) of snooker who nominate the top ranked players.
