Scott Evans beats Lucas Corvee to wrap up Men’s Singles title at Irish International 2012
Scot Evans, the most experienced shuttler from Ireland, showed a steely determination all the way and wrapped up Men’s Singles title after defeating France’s Lucas Corvee in the final battle of Irish International 2012 on Sunday, December 9, in Ireland.
The in-form Evans, who was positioned at the top in Men’s Singles seeding in the tournament, played with complete command in his shots and remained successful in winning this final battle after a thrilling fight.
Irish shuttler proved his superiority on court throughout the championship as he did not lose any game to any of his rival all the way and also remained unbeaten in the final battle as he finished it up in straight sets with a reasonable margin on the board.
In contrast, the lower ranked Lucas failed to stretch his giant killing run on court as he could not create any problem for his local challenger and eventually lost the battle without putting up strong show.
Evans showed an amazing aggression in the arena from the starting rallies of first set by building a huge pressure on his rival.
The speed of the rallies was very fast in starting set and the in-form Evans impressed local crowd with his unmatched skills.
The French shuttler also played good badminton in the opening half and remained slightly behind his challenger until the end of opening half.
The incredible Evans remained confident in the arena after the mid-game interval as he played with the same impressive speed.
It was a smooth sailing for the aggressive Evans who did not face any considerable fight from his opponent and won the first game with a close 21-19 difference on the board.
Lucas was again in problem in the following set as he received a severe treatment from his opponent who was flawless on court.
The hard to return smashes and net killings kept Evans ahead of his challenger all the way until the one-minute interval in second set.
Evans continued putting up staggering show in the ending part of second set and remained successful in clinching the game with a decent 21-18 score on score board.
The Irish man wrapped up the Men’s Singles title as he ended up the final clash in straight games with a close margin of 21-19 and 21-18.
