Scott Evans crushes Nikolay Ukk to face Raul Must in semi-final of the Lithuanian International 2011
Ireland’s ace shuttler, Scott Evans, has crushed Nikolay Ukk of Russia, in the Men’s Singles quarter-final of the Lithuanian International 2011, at Kaunas, Lithuania, on Saturday, June 11. Evans will now meet Estonia’s Raul Must in the semi-final of the
event.
The World Number 57, Scott Evans, who is the second seed in the Men’s Singles category in this tournament, found no trouble in defeating Nikolay in a straight game by consuming only 24 minutes on the court.
In the opening set of the match, Scott proved his worth by playing far better badminton as compared to his opponent, who was struggling to find momentum in the whole game.
The Irish shuttler played to his full potential in the first set to get an advantage in the match. He maintained his high speed in the game and placed his strokes on the most effective areas in his opponent’s court.
Nikolay was looking in decent touch in the opening part of the set, but he lost his momentum and became slow as the game progressed. On the other hand, the second seeded Irish kept his pace high and established an 11-6 lead in the first-half.
After the short break, Scott started to hit the bird hard by executing smashes on the side lines of his rival’s court. He left no room for Nikolay to place his strokes and won the opening set in just 13 minutes with a 21-14 score on the board.
In the following game, the Russian made many mistakes in the opening half, which helped Scott in setting up a lead of 11-5. The Irish wasted no time in finishing up the second set and sealed his victory over the Russian in just 11 minutes by a difference
of 21-10. The 24-minute contest finished with a 21-14 and 21-10 margin.
In the Men’s Singles semi-final of the Lithuanian International, Scott will fight against Raul Must of Estonia, who got a walkover against Frederik Kirkedal of Denmark, in the quarter-final of the championship.
