Scott Evans eases into Men’s Singles second round of the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix – Badminton news
Ireland’s top shuttler, Scott Evans, eases into Men’s Singles second round after taming Nederland’s Hans Van Os in the first round of the 2011 Dutch Open Grand Prix, at Almere, Netherlands, on Wednesday, October 12.
Evans, who is currently ranked at 53rd position in the Men’s Singles world standings, played on a higher level against the local shuttler and won the match easily in straight games by working for just 23 minutes in the court. Van Os failed to
match the speed of the game and remained far behind throughout the match.
Evans has been playing good badminton for the last eight months and is determined to improve his world ranking by getting good results at the Dutch Open. He played superb game against the Dutch shuttler without taking any pressure and won the match in a
convincing fashion.
In the first set, Van Os remained close to his opponent in the opening points. However, Evans started to play his normal game by keeping the pace of the rallies at the maximum level. Until the break, the Irish set up a comfortable gap by playing positive
and aggressive badminton.
After the one-minute break, the Dutch shuttler accelerated his speed and cheered the local crowd by playing some wonderful rallies. He reduced the difference by remaining positive in the game.
Nevertheless, Evans accelerated his speed at the net and started to dominate the game again. His impressive net strokes followed by jumping smashes spared no room for Van Os to fight back in the contest. The Irish took the first game with a 21-15 score in
just 11 minutes.
In the second game, the higher ranked Irish shuttler played to her full potential and established an early lead in the opening half of the set. He tested all of his strokes against the local player and remained successful in bagging the second set with a
margin of 21-12 in just 12 minutes.
Evans won the battle in 23 minutes with a one-sided score of 21-15 and 21-12.
