Scott Evans grabs his first major title at Irish International 2012 – Badminton special
Scot Evans, one of the most experienced players in the history of Ireland, finally ended up his title drought when he managed to bag Men’s Singles crown at his home event of Carlton Irish International 2012 that ended on Sunday, December 9, 2012.
The Irish shuttler showed a wonderful performance in the final encounter of the tournament and gave a severe lesson to France’s Lucas Corvee while consuming just 37 minutes on court.
The impressive Evans, who has been positioned at number 59 in Men’s Singles world ranking, was on a different level on court as he played with terrific precision and remained successful in claiming the title with in wonderful fashion.
After losing seven times at the final stage of Irish Open, Evans did not give up and remained successful to grab the title at the eighth attempt which indicates his steely determination and untiring efforts during training.
The in-form Evans was the top seed in the tournament and he did not let any of his rivals to win even a single set in all of his matches and finally ended up the title match in the similar fashion with a reasonable margin of 21-19 and 21-18.
After winning the title, Evans was very happy considering that he has never won any international tournament before. This was his first international title and he said that he it was like a dream came true for him.
After the match, Evans said, “This is something I've been waiting for all my life. This is something I've been thinking about, and talking about, since I was a little kid. It's my home tournament, it's something I've wanted my whole life and worked so hard
for.”
He added, “I've finally won a tournament. I've had a lot of hard times in my career so far - and, of course, a lot of good times, and this is by far the best thing that's ever happened in my career. This means way more to me than going to the Olympics.”
Evans also expressed that he has been working hard to improve his techniques particularly at net and he remained successful in getting the next level skills. He has got control over his shots and has also learnt to employ variations to prove his worth in
the arena.
The Irish has got a much needed confidence boost by winning Irish International in front of his home crowd and he is looking forward to maintain his rhythm in the upcoming international tournaments.
