Scott Hairston hits tiebreaking run as New York Mets defeat San Diego Padres 5-4 – MLB Update
Scott Hairston sparked and hit a go-ahead run in the 10th inning to help the New York Mets beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 at Petco Park.
The win did not come easy for the New York Mets. Having played last 15 games, the team has managed with difficulty to win four of them. With the victory that has come their way the Mets will try to keep the flow in the face of growing challenges.
Monday’s game kicked off with Aaron Harang’s exceptionally solid inning, giving up no hits and allowing no run to the New York Mets. R. A. Dickey reciprocated for the Mets with an equally strong inning to keep it scoreless. The pitchers for both teams managed
to keep things tight in the first inning of the game.
But the second inning proved to be an utterly different scenario for the San Diego Padres. Aaron Harang was subject to two hits that brought the Mets three invaluable runs. Lucas Duda homered to give his team 1-0 lead followed by another two-run homer of
Josh Thole.
With Thole having the big hit, Mets had an early 3-0 lead. Kyle Blanks had a single in the third to give Padres their first run followed by Josh Thole’s other hit in the fourth that took the Mets’ lead to 4-1.
The game remained fairly in the hands of the Mets by the sixth inning whereby Dickey tossed some effective innings. It was Will Venable’s homer in the seventh that brought the Mets lead down to 4-3.
Jesus Guzman singled to right in the eighth inning to put an end to the Mets’ lead, levelling the score for the Padres. The game remained exciting all this while when the Mets finally scored the tiebreaking run in the 10th.
Scott Hairston drove in the go-ahead run that put the Mets in charge of the game. It was Jason Isringhausen who threw some good pitches at the end to wrap up the game with a 5-4 win for the New York Mets.
