Scott Hartnell signs a six years extension with Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League
Canadian international hockey player, Scott Hartnell has re-signed a new six year deal with Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League (NHL). He would be given $28.5 million in this contract according to CSNPhilly.com. The deal was officially announced
by the team on Monday.
Philadelphia Flyers’ general manager, Paul Holmgren was very happy to re-sign the player for a long term and believes that he would give much more to the team in coming years, as he said,
"We are pleased to announce that we have agreed with Scott on a multiyear extension. Scott has been a very good player for us over the last five seasons and we look forward to many more good years to come."
The 30-year-old forward, who had previously signed a six-year deal with Flyers for $25.2 million in 2007, was also very happy to sign a new deal with Flyers and according to him it has been lovely five years for him at Philadelphia, as he said,
"I'm pleased to stay in Philadelphia. Mr. [Flyers chairman Ed] Snider and Mr. Holmgren made a commitment to me five years ago to be a Flyer and I've absolutely loved every second of it.
The Regina, Saskatchewan resident also said that they have got a great team and they would be looking to win Stanley Cup, as he added,
“We've got a great team, a great bunch of guys and a great future chance to win a Stanley Cup”.
The 6-foot-2, 215 pounder left winger was originally selected 6th overall in the first round of the 2000 NHL draft by Nashville Predators and made his NHL debut with them in the same year. He played there for six seasons and in 2007, he was traded
from Nashville Predators to Philadelphia Flyers in exchange of Peter Forsberg.
Hartnell’s performance and point scoring has been much better since he is at Flyers’ team and has scored 60+ points in a season twice here, whereas he was never able to score 50+ points in a season at Predators’ side.
Overall in NHL he has played 843 games, scoring 222 goals, 252 assists for total of 874 points.
