Scott Hend moves forward in the Asian Tour Order of Merit and books
a spot in the CIMB Classic
Scott Hend of Australia carded a one-under par 70 in the final round of the CJ Invitational Hosted by K.J. Choi and tied for the fifth position, on Sunday, October 7, 2012.
Hend’s final-round campaign was full of ups and downs. He recorded a total of six birdies at the Haesley Nine Bridges Golf Club.
It was a stunning display of the game considering the fact the venue course is regarded as one of the toughest golf courses in Korea.
However, he also conceded five bogeys that completely ruined his chances to surge to the top of the leaderboard.
At the end of the tournament, he settled for a 10-under par overall score, five strokes behind the winner KJ Choi.
With the fifth-place finish, the Australian pocketed US$28,087, which moved him from the eleventh to the eighth position in the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
His surgence in the rankings allowed him to book a place in the CIMB Classic. The US$ 6.1 million tournament will be played at the Mines Resort & Golf Club, from October 25 to 28, 2012.
According to the qualification criteria, only the top-10 players in the Order of Merit, at the end of the CJ Invitational Hosted by K.J. Choi, will get invitations to play in the event.
The third edition of the co-sanctioned event by the Asian Tour and the PGA Tour will feature a total of 48 players – 30 from the PGA Tour and 10 from the Asian Tour, along with eight sponsor exemptions.
According to Hend, he is getting back to his form and is hopeful to book a place in the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions in November. The tournament will feature only the top five players from the Asian Tour.
“My performance has been pretty good. I’m getting there. I’ve good vibes about what’s going on and my best is not far away,” said Hend.
“I just have to work on a few things and I’ll be ready. My goal at the start of last week was to secure a place at the CIMB Classic and this week, I’ll try to secure a position for HSBC,” added Hend.
