Scott Henry ready for his rookie season on the European Tour
The 2012 European Challenge Tour season finally reached its end with the conclusion of the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final in Italy last week.
It also concluded the top-21 players in the Challenge Tour Rankings, who will be playing on the European Tour in 2013.
Among the 21 players who qualified for the tier-one European Tour, 12 players will be making their debuts on the bigger stage next year.
Scott Henry, who clinched a memorable victory at the Kazakhstan Open after defeating HP Bacher in the playoffs, will also play his rookie season on the European Tour next year.
Standing on the 72nd hole in Kazakhstan, Henry needed a 25-foot birdie putt to force the game to enter the playoffs.
His try for the birdie putt was perfectly calculated, as the ball went right in the hole and the winner was then decided on the second extra hole.
The victory also moved the Scot into the top-10 in the Challenge Tour Rankings. At the end of the tournament, he dedicated his victory to his father as a birthday present.
“I was thinking about my dad all day,” Henry said at the time. “When I left home, he told me that two good weeks in Russia and Kazakhstan would be the perfect present so to win here for him is a great feeling. It was a moment I will remember for the rest
of my life. It felt incredible”.
Although he slipped down to the 11th place in the rankings, at the end of the final leg of the 2012 Challenge Tour season, he easily earned his card for the upcoming European Tour.
After enjoying a successful amateur career, Henry is moving on the right track to become one of the best golfers in the world.
He won the Scottish Boys Championship in 2004 and 2005 as an amateur. In addition to that, he also won the Scottish Boys Stroke Play Championship and the Scottish Amateur Stroke Play Championship in 2004 and 2006, respectively.
Talking to the media, he showed his determination in keeping the momentum going into the bigger tournament that will come his way in the upcoming golf season.
“I always want to keep improving,” he said. “We play golf to compete and be in contention, and in order to do that you have to put the work in. I’m relishing the challenge”.
