Scott Kazmir changing his game on mound for Los Angeles Angels
Back when Scott Kazmir used to be a prospect for Tampa Bay Rays, the starting ace never used to worry about how he pitched. He used to get in position and throw. He did not care about his mechanics, throwing position on hand and legs before and after pitching
and whether hitters made contact or not.
For a long time now, he has been paying attention to those details. Now, he doesn’t want to play that way. He is tired of his self imposed restrictions.
The hurler recently joined his teammates at the Rangers Ballpark before heading out to Arizona to play in a controlled conditions fixture. He left the company of his team on April 18, 2011. He had a chance to speak his mind and he did so with the press.
"It's like I've been pitching with the emergency brake on", Kazmir said. "I have to be free and easy, not thinking about too many things. My arm strength is there. My arm speed is there. Everything checks out great physically. I wouldn't be able to throw
the ball 250 feet long toss the way I can if anything was wrong".
The ball thrower went straight for the 15-day disabled list after having a bad start against the Kansas City Royals on April 3, 2011. The cause for his bad feature was attributed to a sore lower back. After his short ouster through the injury list, he went
home for three days to study videos from various moments in his career.
He was not alone in his task as his independent pitching instructor, Ron Wolfworth, also took part in the rehabilitation schedule.
"He did a lot of research and we went over a lot of stuff", Kazmir said.
The pitcher explained that he was trying to generate pace with the things he was doing. Trying to vary deliveries but he landed in a different situation though. He affirmed that he has pitched over the past few days and it has felt good. Now he wants to
head back to the field and continue on as a member of the Angels’ line up.
