Scott Lyttle wins first stage and also takes overall lead in 2011 Tour de Beauce: Cycling News
PureBlack Racing team’s Scott Lyttle won the first stage and also took overall lead in 2011 Tour de Beauce in Lac-Etchemin, Canada, on Tuesday, June 14.
The 27-year-old Scott took a total of 4 hours, 3 minutes and 47 seconds to cover the distance of 165 kilometres.
The three riders including, his team-mate, Timothy Gudsell, and Francois Parisien of Spidertech Powered by C10 and Brett Tivers of Garneau Club Chaussures crossed the finish-line to grab the second and third position, respectively.
After winning the stage, Scott said, "The was a great opportunity for me to give a victory to my PureBlack Racing teammates, It is fantastic to win the first stage. Winning the 10-second time bonus at the end of the stage was key for us."
Previously, Scott grabbed the second place in Rice Mountain Classic and 11thspot in Championship New Zeeland Highway 2010. He took the third spot in fourth stage of Benchmark Homes Tour in 2009.
Alex Howes of the Chipotle Development team was in the fifth spot with a difference of 5 seconds, while the Svein Tuft was in the 9th spot.
A group of five riders made their first breakaway, which included, Scott Lyttle, Thomas Rabou (Realcyclist.com Cycling Team), Francisco Mancebo Perez, Timothy Gudsell and Phillip Gaimon (Kenda/5-hour Energy Pro Cycling p/b Geargrinder).
Lyttle won the first King of the Mountain (KOM) of the day, ahead of Thomas and Mancebo. In the final 100 kilometres, a group of 22 riders worked together and gained an advantage of three-minutes over the peloton.
However, Parisien attacked the group, but failed while Scott maintained his pace and managed to cross the finish-line first to win the second KOM ascent.
Lyttle said, "Getting the KOM points was the main objective for the day I ended up having enough left at the end too."
Dominique Rollin won the first and second sprint of stage with 6 points ahead of Francisco and Timothy.
Scott Lyttle also took the overall lead with a timing of 4 hours, 3 minutes and 37 seconds, while Timothy Gudsell was the runner-up with 3 seconds behind Lyttle.
Francois Parisien finished third with a difference of 6 seconds and Brett Tivers was in the fourth spot with a difference of 10 seconds.
The next stage will start in Thetford Mines and all the riders will cover a distance of 162 kilometres.
