Scott Miller appointed Executive VP of Competition at Michael Waltrip Racing – NASCAR news
Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) has announced Scott Miller as their Executive Vice President of Competition, starting from the 2012 season.
Miller has been recruited from Richard Childress Racing (RCR), where he worked as Director Competition since 2008. Miller has a lot of experience in the industry, having worked in various capacities for 16 years.
Miller replaces Steve Hallam, who recently joined Walkinshaw Racing in the Australian V8 Supercar series as Managing Director after spending 2 years as Executive Vice President at MWR.
Owners Michael Waltrip and Rob Kauffman have expressed their commitment to improving the performance of the team. They vow to make it one of the elite teams in the sport.
“This is the highest-ranking role in our competition department and we needed a person with great knowledge of our sport, experience in managing highly competitive personnel, and a vast technical background,” Waltrip said. “Scott is exactly all of those
things. This is such an important hire for our organization.”
Miller was delighted to be presented with the opportunity at MWR and felt that the organisation had all the necessary resources to compete with the best teams in the sport. He said that it was his job as Executive VP of Competition to make sure that those
resources are utilised to their full potential.
Miller’s appointment coincides with the talks being held to bring Clint Bowyer to MWR from RCR as they look to target a spot in the Chase 2012.
Bowyer will bring a lot of experience to the team as he has qualified for the chase three times in the last six years. MWR are looking to field Bowyer in a Toyota as a third car in the Sprint Cup, with Martin Truex Jr. and David Reutimann already driving
Camrys for the team.
MWR have not won a race in the ongoing 2011 and both its drivers failed to qualify for the Chase Cup. Their last Sprint Cup victory was at Chicago over a year ago.
MWR will be looking at Scott Miller to change these statistics and make MWR a force to be reckoned with on the track.
