Scott Quigg confident at defending undefeated streak against Rendall Munroe – Boxing News
Scott Quigg, the current BBBC British super bantamweight champion, will defend his undefeated streak against fellow countryman Rendall Munroe, the former WBA International super bantamweight champion, in a 12-round bout which will also have the interim WBA
world super bantamweight title up for grabs, on June 16, 2012.
The duo will headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Ricky Hatton of Hatton Promotions and the ring for the showdown will be set up at Velodrome in Manchester, Lancashire, United Kingdom.
Manchester boxing fanatics will also witness Ryan Rhodes take on Sergey Rabchenko in a 12-round bout for the vacant EBU (European) light middleweight title hence constituting the co-main event.
Scott and Rendall recently participated in a pre-bout press conference and shared their thoughts about the upcoming engagement. Scott, 23, is a surging young Briton who has been in a total 24 bouts and boasts an undefeated streak.
Quigg has collected 17 of his wins by knocking the opponent out cold and resides at World Boxing Organisation’s 17th position.
The talent of the Lancashire lad can also be judged by the fact that he currently wears two titles round his waist that is the BBBC British and WBA Inter-Continental super bantamweight titles.
During the media interaction, Scott vowed that he will nail Munroe at all costs and stated, “I am the one who has it all to prove, but I am one million percent confident I can beat Rendall. He’s going to pressure me, but I have got a good defence and I haven’t
dedicated myself to boxing since I was a kid to fail now.”
His Saturday night opponent Munroe is also a quality pugilist who resides at a decent 22nd rank in WBO’s rankings. Rendall has been in a total 26 bouts and boasts 24 wins. The 32-year-old has pinned 10 opponents by knockout and as far as the stats and technicalities
are concerned, is overshadowed by Scott.
Munroe is currently on a three-bout win streak since his last loss to Toshiaki Nishioka, a bout in which he lost the chance to grab the WBC super bantamweight gold. Rendall also shared his view point during the media interaction and stated, “Since I gave
up work last year I have had a lot more time to work on things like strength and conditioning and I am sure I will reap the rewards against Scott. He is a good kid, but I have been at elite level for a long time and I don’t think he is ready to step up just
yet.”
The odds at the moment are in favour of Scott who undoubtedly possesses a flawless resume and will put forth Rendall a seriously tough competition. Munroe should capitalise this opportunity and strive hard against Quigg in order to move up in the rankings.
