Scott Rolen hits a sacrifice fly as the Chicago Cubs lose to Cincinnati Reds 3-4 – MLB Update
Chicago Cubs lost to Cincinnati Reds 4-3 at the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio on Thursday, May 3 in the second game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Starlin Castro provided the Cubs with a dream start as he hit a towering 412 feet home-run in the first. Bryan LaHair also joined the party in the fourth and his home-run to left doubled the Cubs’ advantage 2-0. Geovany Soto hit the third home-run as the Cubs took 3-0 lead and it seemed as if they will cruise to an easy win but the Reds had other ideas.
Coming back from behind, Cincinnati registered an emphatic victory. Scott Rolen had an absolutely great time on the plate as he hit a sacrifice fly in the 10th to help the Reds stun their rivals.
"Sometimes he's throwing strikes, and then he's practically unhittable," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "The key is to swing at strikes and make him throw balls. We don't have a whole lot of guys who hit him well."
"It didn't look good there for a while," said Rolen, who played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. "After we came back to tie the game, the only thing left is to finish it."
After making a very poor start to their 2012 season campaign, the Reds have been giving consistent results over the last two weeks.
Chicago secured a comfortable 3-1 win in the opening game to dent their opponents’ confidence levels but despite having the momentum on their side, they were unable to end the series on a positive note and Cincinnati earned a hard fought 4-3 win to level the series. With their win on Thursday evening, the Reds also improved their win-loss record to 12-12.
The Cubs, on the other hand, will be a bit disappointed with the outcome of the clash. Although the Cubs put up a strong fight, they were unable to cross the winning line. The way the Cubs conducted themselves on the field will certainly give them a lot of confidence going into their next series.
