Scott Sizemore sparks as Oakland Athletics defeat Minnesota Twins 8-3 – MLB Update
Oakland Athletics’ third baseman, Scott Sizemore was impressive with the bat as he hit three RBIs including one walk and went 1-for-3 with an average of .245 in the Athletics’ 8-3 win against the Minnesota Twins at O.co Coliseum, Oakland on July 30.
At the top of the first inning, the Twins scored their first run when Michael Cuddyer singled to right-field and Ben Revere posted a single run. Athletics also added one run during the first inning to tie the game 1-all. Josh Willingham hit a sacrifice fly
towards left-field and Coco Crisp contributed the tie run for the Athletics.
Twins went ahead at the top of the second inning by adding a single run. Delmon Young singled off right-centre and Jim Thome scored one run. On the other side, Athletics posted two runs to take a 3-2 lead at the bottom of the second inning. Landon Powell
hit a grounder into double play while Conor Jackson scored a single run.
The leading run during the second inning was taken by Cliff Pennington when Jemile Weeks drove a triple-run shot towards deep left-centre. The pitchers sustained their line in the third and fourth inning and did not surrender any run.
Athletics’ starter, Guillermo Moscoso pitched just over six innings and permitted just two earned runs with an ERA of 3.41. He gave up seven hits and two runs with one walk and had just two strike-outs on his 100 pitches.
In the fifth inning, Athletics extended their lead 7-2 by smashing four runs. Ryan Sweeney reached to short-stop position on an infield single and Hideki Matsui scored one run. The last three runs during the fifth inning were taken by Willingham, Sweeney
and Pennington when Sizemore doubled to left-field.
Moscoso said, “They were getting me pretty early, so I started mixing up all those pitches and tried to get ahead in the count.”
During the sixth inning, Athletics got an 8-2 lead when Crisp added a single run and Matsui occupied third base to end the sixth inning. Twins were able to post just one run at the top of the ninth inning to cut the deficit 8-3. Thome singled off left-field
and Cuddyer contributed the last run of the game.
With this hard fought victory, the Athletics kept themselves alive and tied the three-game series 1-all.
