Scott Stallings happy to be back in Massachusetts for the Deutsche Bank Championship
The second stage of the US PGA Tour Playoffs, the Deutsche Bank Championship, is set to begin in Norton, Massachusetts, with the top-100 players in the FedEx Cup standings getting ready to outshine each other at TPC Boston.
In the meantime, the local star Scott Stallings is enjoying being back in his home state after a tiring schedule on the PGA Tour in the past few months.
Early in the 2012 golf season, the two-time PGA Tour winner tore cartilage in his ribs. However, he did not stop playing and kept on competing in different tournaments on the tour.
The hard work and passion of playing golf paid him off in the end, when he recorded a victory in the True South Classic last month.
Meanwhile, he went to see a doctor where the MRI scans revealed that he had torn cartilage once again. Therefore, the injury may now create hurdles in his way of competing in the rest of the PGA Tour season.
"Unfortunate would be the understatement," Stallings told Reuters. "I knew that when I had the opportunity to play and I was fully healthy, I'd have a chance to be successful”.
"I worked really hard this off-season to get in better shape ... and it kind of felt like it was all for nothing because there's no real recovery process for a rib injury besides just sitting,” he continued.
"So I did that for a couple of months, came back and played the Masters on purely pain medicine just to get through it. I was glad to be done with that,” he added.
Stallings currently lists at the 61st position in the FedEx Cup standings, entering the Deutsche Bank Championship. The top-70 players at the end of the tournament will qualify for the BMW Championship in Carmel, scheduled next week.
The 27-year-old American started off the 2012 PGA Tour season poorly and missed the cut 12 times in 18 appearances that he made prior to his victory in the True South Classic.
Afterwards, he managed to post some good scores and succeeded in making the cut three times in his last four appearances.
Despite playing in his home town, he may not be a favourite to win the title this year. However, he can be a good contender because of his experience at the venue course.
