Scott Stallings or Tommy Gainey – Who is likely to prosper?
Tommy Gainey, the American golf professional has had more success than others on the golfing circuit. He has peculiar attire, as he wears a glove on each hand, which is not a common practice in golf.
Gainey, also famous as “Two Gloves”, said that the reason why he wears gloves on both hands is because his father used to do the same and it is his father who introduced him to the sport.
Gainey started his journey on the Professional Golf Association Tour back in 2008. The transition from amateur to the professional circuit took a toll on the American and he failed to perform during his first season.
Gainey managed to make the cut only in a few tournaments out of the 23 he played in his first year. Moreover, he was listed way down on the money list.
In 2010, Gainey showed impressive results on the Nationwide Tour. He clinched his trophy when he won the Melwood Prince George’s County Open tournament. It was all due to an extraordinary exhibition of his real talent in the tournament.
In 2011, the Camden resident put up another excellent show. He claimed the 4th spot on the Nationwide Tour money list and subsequently returned to the Professional Golf Association.
This year, the 37-year-old has improved his record on the PGA Tour by clinching a title and performing well in tournaments. He triumphed at the McGladrey Classic.
On the other hand, Scott Stallings, a 27-year-old American golfer who belongs to Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, suffered a rocky start.
He turned professional in 2007 and currently plays on the PGA Tour. Before coming to the PGA Tour he used to play on the Nationwide Tour.
During his first few years on the PGA Tour, the American missed out on several opportunities to get a card to play on the tour.
Stallings managed to secure a card to play on the PGA Tour in 2011, after a long and strenuous struggle on the Nationwide Tour.
His results on the PGA Tour were nothing to brag about. He barely managed to make the cut in the tournaments but then got his first break when he finished on the 42nd position in the Puerto Rico Open.
A decent result in Puerto Rico gave Stallings the much needed confidence that he deserved. From there on, he kept improving his performance on the tour.
The Greenbrier Classic was won by Stallings in July 2011. It was his first PGA Tour victory. Although the golfer was found struggling at times during the final round, he ended up on top of the three-way play-off.
Stallings is a comparatively young player, specifically when compared with Gainer, who is 10 years elder.
Given the fact that he has little experience on-tour, the odds may appear to be working against him. However, considering his performance in the Greenbrier Classic, it is undeniable that the player has tremendous resolve and plays with genuine grit.
His recent form was spectacular, as he has been able to improve his game over the past the two years.
In the last five years, Stallings managed to rise to the occasion, even though he had to face numerous difficulties.
Comparing him with his compatriot, one has to note that Stallings still has much to learn. In addition, the fact that he is young allows him the opportunity to win more titles along his way.
