Scott Verplank and Lucas Glover plan a return ahead of the Masters as Paul Goydos goes on a rehab
Scott Verplank and Lucas Glover are all set to make a comeback in the latest PGA Tour after been away from mainstream golf for a considerable period of time.
The duo were seen swinging their clubs for a practice session, Tuesday at Innisbrook and both are hoping to step back in the tour calendar ahead of the first major event of the season.
Verplank and Glover have been on the Disabled List (DL) after suffering injuries last year and although the doctors have warned them of an earlier comeback, both players have started practicing before heading into mainstream field.
Verplank suffered a tendon injury in his last event, the Deutsche Bank Championship on PGA Tour and had to undergo a complicated surgery where the tendon was provided support with the adjacent tissues.
He said, “I’m pretty sure I’m going to be OK. It’s not 100 percent yet. I’m still a little bit leery of hitting irons off marginal lies, when you know you have to take a divot and go get it. A lot of the deal is getting over it in your head”.
The sturdy player wanted to make a comeback at either Phoenix or Riviera but wasn’t able to do so. He now plans to return to the Masters.
His strong joint fourth finish in the PGA Championship has already confirmed his participation in the coveted event.
Glover, on the other hand, suffered a knee injury in the PGA Tour season opener at Kapalua and aggravated the injury as he kept on playing for several proceeding events.
He later found out that the knee needs critical attention and rest.
He said, “The knee is 100 percent. I’m in good gym shape, but need to make sure I’m in good golf shape to be able to walk four days in a row. That’s the plan for this week”.
While the duo are making a comeback, Paul Goydos is now heading to another rehab after having a surgery on his left wrist where the doctors removed a bone spur.
The 47-year-old said the pain was excruciating during his round in Hawaii and realised that his wrist needed immediate attention.
He said, “At my age and considering what we do for a living, he’s a little concerned about some cartilage damage”.
The season is already warming up for the first major event of the year. Players on the brim are hoping to find a way back into top-50 to qualify for the event.
