Scott Weltz captures Men’s 200m IM gold: Day three - Santa Clara International Grand Prix
Scott W Weltz of Marin Pirates-PC captured gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on third day of the 2012 Santa Clara International Grand Prix in California on Sunday, June 3.
Santa Clara is the last stop of the 2012 Swimming Grand Prix Series that gives a chance to their national swimmers to compete with the international stars before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 25-year-old Weltz faced tough battle from Joshua C Prenot of Santa Maria Swim throughout the four-lap discipline but managed to outperform him over the finishing end for gold medal of the discipline.
Prenot dominated the first three laps of the event but failed to withstand Weltz’s scintillating effort on the finishing blockade and finished second.
With his fascinating efforts, Weltz succeeded in securing gold medal of the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 03.31 seconds.
His gold claiming effort remained 0.02 seconds faster from the 18-year-old Prenot, who settled on the finishing wall for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 03.33 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Miguel Robles Castro of Mexico, who was 1.90 seconds apart and reached the finishing end for third position with the timing of 2 minutes and 05.23 seconds.
Robles Castro was trailed by Benjamin S Hinshaw of California Aquatics, who remained 0.16 seconds slower and settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder by producing a time of 2 minutes and 05.39 seconds.
Following that, the 24-year-old Alex P Wold of Santa Clara-PC stayed one and a half body length behind and earned fifth finest spot of the discipline by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 07.10 seconds.
Wold remained 0.69 seconds ahead of Andrew J Porter of Cabrillo Threshers, who managed to secure sixth position of the 200m discipline by producing a time of 2 minutes and 07.79 seconds.
In addition, the arena appreciated commendable efforts of all participants in the 200m discipline while the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the medal ceremony of the championship. Furthermore, the championship concluded after the event.
