Scottie Pippen wants to be NBA Head Coach, realizes it’s a bit far-fetched – NBA News
Scottie Pippen is considered one of the best players to have played the game of basketball, and was the legendary partner of Michael Jordan in the Chicago Bulls when the team won six NBA championships in the 1990’s.
Pippen is regarded as a great defender as well as forward, and Jordan has openly said that had it not been for Scottie Pippen, he would not have won all those NBA championships. The hall of famer and six time NBA champion is now finding it difficult to stay away from the game that he has played all his life, and has recently made his interest public about being a head coach in the NBA.
In a recent appearance on the “Waddle and Silvy Show” on ESPN 1000 radio, Pippen made his intentions about wanting to become a head coach public and talked about the motivation to take this step.
‘It is (my goal to be head coach). I still enjoy the game. I’m around the game. I’m a guy that has always loved basketball, and I love being a part of it,” said Pippen.
Pippen also discussed how it would feel to once again work with Phil Jackson, former coach of the Chicago Bulls during their championship reign and one of the biggest mentors of his career. Pippen said that he would love to have a job as the head coach in a team where Phil Jackson was the General Manager. That, he said, would be a dream combination and would fulfil his desire of working with the great coach one more time.
“That would be great. Phil is a great person, a great mind for the game and I know he still wants to be a part of the game, so if that scenario were to happen, yes, it would be great to be able to work for a guy who’s been your mentor throughout your career,” said Pippen.
Even though there is no limit to dreaming and Pippen is respected by a lot of people in the NBA of today, he knows deep inside that his dream may be a little hard to materialize since he does not have any head coaching experience. Pippen openly agreed that as of now, chances of him landing a coaching job are rather slim. He even accepted that no team had reached out to him in the offseason for a job.
“No, I don’t think so. I just think it was some rumours that got out there. I can’t say I sat down to talk to any team about being a head coach,” added Pippen.
