Scottish Football Association set to reveal Tannadice report
The Scottish Football Association will announce their findings from their investigation into the Celtic and Dundee Premier League match that took place at Tannadice on 17 October.
The association will report on the penalty incident in which referee Dougie McDonald overturned his decision to award Celtic a penalty.
The referee’s assistant Steven Craven initially flagged for a Celtic penalty, but the two officials changed their minds over the penalty appeal.
On Monday, 25 October, Craven resigned from his position due to the pressure and abuse directed at him for his role in the match.
Former referee Kenny Clark was disappointed that Craven had resigned, but admitted that he understood his reasons for leaving the job.
Clark said, “I'm certainly not going to criticise him for taking that decision because I don't know how much abuse he has had to put up with. I don't know what his family have been subjected to."
Celtic manager Neil Lennon called into question the standard of refereeing this week and Celtic wrote to the SFA to confirm why Rangers were given a penalty in the Old Firm game and why the penalty was not awarded at Dundee.
However, Clark believes that the officials are under too much pressure in games and that this will cause problems in the future.
"The more pressure that is heaped upon referees, the more abuse that is directed at match officials, the more difficult the job becomes. The fewer people attracted into refereeing or acting as assistants, then obviously quality will diminish.”
"We need to have as many people as possible coming into it and then you can sort out the good one from the poorer ones, added Clark.
Clark also believes that the Scottish Football Association and football across the world needs to act in order to relieve the pressure on referees.
