I`m visiting the Highlands in 2 weeks (camping the lochs), last time me and my wife were there the gnats were having a free banquet from our bodies lol, will they be out in force in a fortnight?..they dont bother me as much as they do my missus..

Also what is the best Mozzie repellent.?

And is there a good time of day to avoid the little vampires?

Thanking you.

  1. The midges were certainly biting this week in Western Scotland. The widely used repellent is a skin cream made by Avon the door-to-door cosmetic company. It's called "Skin so Soft" and it's the green variety you're after. You can buy it from AVON ON LINE. Suggest long sleeve shirts, long cotton trousers and a fine head net you can make from a white net curtain. Make a bog that will fit over your head and tuck into your shirt. You'll be glad you did!! Build a good smokey fire is a good protection too. If you've been bitten badly (and in Russia that is easily done) the best cure is a sauna, or a very hot bath...it brings the poisons out.

  2. Oh yes they are out.Agree about Avon skin so soft they don't seem to like it.

Think worst time for midges is late afternoon/early evening, they don't seem to bother me when out with the dog early morning.

  3. Deet And Citronella Products Are About The Best Mozzie Repellents Around Mate. I'm Not Sure How Bad They Are Just Now But If You're Camping, You Might Want To Consider Mosquito Netting To Keep Them Off You At Night?

Good Luck Mate, I Wear NOSquito Brand Clothing From Craghoppers Which Is Impregnated With Repellent And Is Supposed To Be Mozzie Proof.

I Hope You Have A Good Holiday Whatever Happens Mate!
