Scottish Hydro renews pledge to assist Scottish golf
Scottish golf is finding itself in a much better situation these days, as Scottish Hydro, one of the top-notch energy companies in the United Kingdom, has renewed its pledge to provide financial assistance to players on the European Challenge Tour.
In an announcement made this week, officials of Scottish Hydro told that the company will go ahead with this initiative to support rising and talented players associated with the European Challenge Tour.
Patrons of Scottish golf have welcomed the announcement from Scottish Hydro, saying the move will prove beneficial for both the players and the Tour.
They said that the company came forward to support its programme designed to provide expert advice to players.
When asked how the initiative is going to bolster golf in Scotland, officials said that Scottish golf already has enough potential to grow.
They went on to say that, with the much-needed support being given in the form of financial assistance to a group of players, golf will continue to flourish across the country.
Five players, who were selected for the Challenge Tour, attended the gathering that announced that more of such programmes are being planned for the future.
One of the players picked to receive assistance from the Tour, Callum Macaulay, appreciated the efforts of Scottish Hydro and the golf patrons in the country.
Macaulay said that he is happy to see the role Scottish Hydro is playing. “I am very pleased to be included again this year and I am very grateful to Scottish Hydro for their continued support,” he said.
“Last season was a good year for me but I know what I need to do to make it onto the European Tour and I am determined to make this happen,” he further said.
The five lucky players were: Jamie McLeary, Chris Doak, Callum Macaulay, rookies Jack Doherty and Andrew McArthur.
Arthur said that he did not expect to be selected for the Challenge Tour, but knows that he will gain substantially on the course after getting the support.
“I am excited to be a part of Team Scottish Hydro as I know how much benefit this support brings. This gives me a fantastic opportunity to achieve my goal of playing at the highest level in the game,” the newcomer said.
Famous Scottish star, Catriona Matthew, spoke in praise of women's golf officials, saying that the steps Scottish Hydro is taking will prove beneficial for everyone related to the sport.
She said that the only thing that made her happy is that there are two female golfers in the five-player group, which is something local women's golf has been looking forward to for a long time.
