Scottish National Junior Championships: Rebekka Findlay tames Julie MacPherson to claim U19 title
Rebekka Findley, who is one of the most talented shuttlers from Scotland, proved her elevated craft on court and won the Girl’s Singles U19 title after beating her compatriot Julie MacPherson in the final encounter at Scottish National Junior Championships
2012 on Sunday, October 14, in Scotland.
The top seeded Rebekka, who has been impressive her home fans by showing her elite skills all the way to the final of the tournament finally became the national champion in Under-19 category and proved that she is ready to cope up with bigger challenges
at international stage.
However, winning the final battle proved to be an uphill task for Rebekka who had to dig into her rich reserves and produced better form.
Higher ranked Rebekka managed to play positive badminton when it mattered most and remained successful in beating her team-mate in a hard-fought three-set battle that took 43 minutes of fast badminton from both contestants.
On the other hand, the second seeded Julie also gave a wonderful fight to her compatriot and entertained the crowd with her impressive skills.
Nonetheless, Julie remained unlucky in the ending points of final set and ultimately lost the battle in a respectable fashion.
In the opening set of this final fight, Julie showed her incredible craft by taking the bird early from all areas and eventually set up a huge margin on score board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Rebekka tried her best to put up strong show but failed to maintain her speed and eventually lost the set with a huge difference of 13-21.
In the following set, the higher ranked Rebekka geared up her speed in all areas and stayed close on score board throughout the set and proved her worth in ending points to claim the game with a narrow margin of 21-19.
In the deciding game, both participants played to their maximum potential dictating each other in all areas of the court all the way until the end of first half.
After the break, Rebekka managed a reasonable lead and maintained it to win the final set with a margin of 21-17.
Rebekka won this title match in a thrilling fashion by a decent 13-21, 21-19 and 21-17 score on the board.
