Scottish Open: Phil Mickelson riding a bumpy road
The Scottish Open finally comes to an end. The venue for this prestigious event was Castle Stuart Golf Links. The fans got their money’s worth as the top ranked golfers fought for glory.
Many players gave an unexpected performance in the tournament. Some were able to successfully impress the audience while others failed.
A player who had a very inconsistent tournament is Phil Mickelson. He performed poorly on the first and the fourth day of the tournament. On the other hand, he performed exceptionally well on the second and the third day.
Mickelson had a good start to his first day as he started his front nine with two birdies on the second and the third.
In total, he managed to card four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey on the twelfth hole. These made his score one-over par for the day.
Mickelson gave an amazing performance in the second round. He scored six birdies and an eagle on the day, which made his score eight-under par for the day. His day included no bogeys or double bogeys. After two rounds he was on seven-under par.
Mickelson’s third day was pretty amazing as well. He was able to finish the day on seven-under par. His seven-under par included eight birdies and a bogey. His day included no eagles or double bogeys.
After three days of golf at the Castle Stuart, Mickelson was at fourteen-under par. He was just three strokes behind the leader, Francesco Molinari. He could have easily won the tournament.
Unfortunately for the 42-year-old, he played his worst round of the tournament on the final day. On the front nine, he scored a birdie and a bogey, and on the back nine he scored three bogeys and a birdie.
These made his score for the day two-over par and his total score for the tournament twelve-under par.
In the end, Mickelson was five strokes behind the leader, Jeev Milkha Singh. In the tournament the second position was occupied by Francesco Molinari, who lost to Singh in the play-offs.
Alexander Noren and Marc Warren were tied at the third spot, as both of them finished the tournament with sixteen-under par.
