Scottish Open: last round too expensive for Luke Donald
The Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open 2012 came to a splendid end. The top golfers in the world fought for the title on one of the most prestigious courses in Europe, Castle Stuart Golf Links. The fans got their money’s worth and were really surprised
with the results.
One of the top contenders for the title was Luke Donald. He was one of the favourites, as he was the defending champion. He was able to bag last year’s Scottish Open.
Donald was back again with the same determination to win the Scottish Open two years in a row. This time he had a good start and could have won it.
The first day of the tournament was the best one for Donald. He started off his 1st day with four consecutive birdies. In total he had seven birdies and 2 bogeys on the day.
These made his score five-under par. He registered no eagles or double bogeys throughout the whole day.
On the second day, Donald carded 14 pars. His day also included four birdies, which made his score four-under par for the day. There were no bogeys, double bogeys or eagles involved on the day. His total score after 2 days was nine-under par.
Donald’s third day was similar to the second one. On both the days the English professional golfer carded a magnificent four under par.
On the third day, he was able to manage seven birdies. The three bogeys on the seventh, tenth and fifteenth made his total score thirteen-under par.
After the first three days, Donald was in a strong position. He was just four strokes behind the leader of that time, Francesco Molinari. He only had to be consistent as everything was going right for the 34-year-old.
On the front nine, Donald carded two bogeys, on the first and the fourth hole. His first nine holes also involved a birdie, which made his score one-over par.
He did not have much luck on the back nine, as he was only able to card a birdie and bogey. These made his score one-over par for the day.
Donald ended his day on twelve-under par. He was five strokes behind the leader, Jeev Milkha Singh and was tied at the sixteenth spot with seven other players.
