Scottish Premier League, Full time report: Celtic cruise past St.Mirren with ease
Celtic managed to unleash a goal fest at Celtic Park as they thumped four goals past St. Mirren and moved to the top of the Scottish Premier League.
Joe Ledley, Shaun Maloney, James Forrest and Sung-Yong Ki were all present to grab one goal a piece for the Socttish team, in a game where Celtic quite comprehensively out played their opponents in almost every possible department.
Three days after a spectacular victory over, Utrecht in the Europa League play-offs, Celtic played some breathtaking football. The team was stringing together some beautiful passes and constantly threatening their opponents defense from the very first minute of the game. Georgios Samaras and Marc-Antoine Fortune went on full steam from the minute the opening whistle was blown and were constantly being a thorn in the back of the opposition defense's back.
Last week when Dundee faced St.Mirren it took the team eighty nine minute to break through the St.Mirren defense. However Celtic achieved that feat in only five minutes and by doing so they were stomping authority on the league and giving a warning to all their opponents for the coming months.
The nineteen year old winger, James Forrest was a constant threat down the flanks. He showed some tremendous maturity and technique way beyond his years in the game. He blasted down the wing before picking out Samaras with a pin point pass, who then knocked the ball back into the path of Ledley to score Celtic's first goal of the match with the outside of his boot in emphatic fashion.
With Celtic firmly pressing their authority on the game, the question was not if but when would the team grab their second goal of the game. St.Mirren looked like they had seen a ghost or something of that sort. The team appeared to be shell shocked and were being lazy and falling all over the place. Shaun Maloney took advantage of this and bundled in Celtic's second goal in the twenty third minute of the game.
Going into the game it had been twenty years since, St.Mirrens had won at Celtic Park. They way things were going it looked like it was going to be the teams twenty first year without a win at the Park. The team was given another crushing blow in the sixty third minute when, Forrest added his name to the Celtic score sheet.
Fortune was once again the master mind and architect behind the goal. He layed off a perfectly timed and weighted ball to the galloping Forrest to slam the ball into the top corner and roof of the net from point blank range.
The crowd seemed to be liking what they were seeing and were making themselves be herd. They were edging their team on to go ahead and score more goals. When the game was almost over, Celtic's Korean player, Sung-Young Ki, delivered one for the fans.
The substitute who was on to replace, Kayal, received the ball thirty yards from the opposing goal, but he had his mind set on what he wanted to do. He pierced the air with a thunderbolt of a shot which was headed straight for the top corner and that's where it finally ended up.
The win saw Celtic climb to the top of the Scottish Premier League in some style. Whereas St.Mirren were left sinking to the ninth spot in the League
