Scottish Premier League: Aberdeen vs. Rangers (part2) – Rangers edge past Aberdeen to go top of the table
On the thirty second minute, Rangers had a penalty. After a crazy few minutes, Weiss was brought down by Ifil in the box. The referee didn't hesitate before pointing to the spot. Miller stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and scored.
The player didn't take any time in winding up therefore kicked the ball straight down middle of the goal as the keeper dived to his left.
Rangers could have equalized on the stroke of half time, as Miller whipped in a fine cross from the left. Papac rose the highest to meet the cross with a glancing header, but his effort was comfortably saved by the keeper.
The second half kicked off occurred with, Rangers stressing more authority this time around. They were not giving the ball away as cheaply as they had in the first half.
On the fifty first minute, Rangers finally had their long awaited equalizing goal. Kenny Miller was the man at the heart of it all once again. On a swift counter-attack, Naismith released Davis down the flank, who picked Miller's run with
perfection, his pin point cross across the box, was met by the on rushing striker, who buried the ball into the roof of the net.
That goal acted as the away teams cue to go all out. All of a sudden the Rangers team started to dominate the Aberdeen side in almost every department. The away team went close on the fifty ninth minute once again. Davis won possession
on the edge of the box, before feeding the ball to Jelavic, whose first time shot crashed off the outside of the post.
Ten minutes later, Rangers got the much needed and deserved lead. A poor kick from Langfield, fell right onto the feet of Bougherra, who passed the ball to Lee McCulloch, with a first time pass. The player then picked out the run of Naismith,
who caught the Aberdeen defence, sleeping. He then had the presence of mind, to square the ball to Jelavic, who had the simplest of tasks at slotting the ball into the back of an empty net.
Aberdeen, slowly started to grow desperate. The home team were winning the tie, but were clueless as to how they had managed themselves into such a situation. Being a goal behind the Rangers side they looked desperately for help on the
wings. Their desperation got the better of them as they started throwing in tackles from all directions.
As a result of this, Maguire was the first player to be given the marching orders. The player brought down, Naismith and already being on a yellow card, he was shown another and asked to head back to take an early shower.
As the match progressed, Rangers didn't feel the need to push forward to get another goal, since they were aware of the fact that the home side couldn't really do much. Rangers held onto possession and ran the clock out. The team eventually
took home the three points from a hard fought battle, but as a result were back in pole position in the league.
