Scottish Premier League: Celtic vs Hibernian – Celtic edge past Hibernian by a 2-1 scoreline
(part 1)
Celtic were looking to take on Hibernian at the Celtic Park, in the Scottish Premier League. With the opportunity to go top of the table, with Rangers playing their match the following day.
Neil Lennon however was found to sympathize with John Hughes prior to the match. Hughes who is a former Celtic player, saw the Hibernian fans turn on him this previous week. This was after the team had a rather poor season last
time around and managed to crash out of the Co-operative Insurance Cup midweek.
Prior to the match, Lennon was reported to have said: "Everything is relative in terms of everyone has their own pressure at their club,'' the Northern Irishman said." Results haven't been great for Hibs recently but if anyone can
turn it around it will be him.
"I would say that people are too quick to turn on managers and players because I am a manager. But it seems to be an increasingly short time before people do turn on managers."
"It is the unfortunate part of the job. I think the way the game is, the average span of a manager now is maybe only a season, a season and a half, and it is ridiculous.''
Lennon was either actually felling sorry for his opposing manager on the night, or he could have been participating in the age old mind games, that have managed to make themselves a part of the game of football over the years.
The Hibs fans, were not looking very optimistic before kick off, because they were well aware of the fact that, their team had managed only one win in their previous eight matches, where as Celtic had scored eleven goals in their
last three games.
The experts found it very easy, to predict Celtic as the team that would come out on top at the end of the match.
As the referee blew the whistle the match kicked off with Celtic dominating the game, from the very first minute.
This early domination of possession saw Celtic take a very early lead in the game. Scott Brown received the ball a good thirty yards away from the Hibs goal, the player took a step or two before unleashing a thunderbolt from nearly
twenty five yards or so out and left the Hibs keeper, Mark Brown with no chance to get his hands on it.
Hibs were feeling the pressure of the early goal, as their manger would have informed the team to try and prevent the early goal. However the team failed to do so and their nerves started to get the better of them.
On the fifteenth minute, Celtic could have scored a second. Hibs gave away a cheap free kick in a very dangerous area and Mulgrew was all set to take the kick. The player whipped it in beautifully and Daniel Majstrovic rose the
highest to meet the ball in the air, however he couldn't guide the ball in the right direction as the ball flew over the post.
