Scottish boxer Alex Arthur hoping for a rematch with Ricky Burns – Boxing news
The Scottish professional boxer, Alex Arthur, who has been the former British, Commonwealth, European Boxing Union and WBO super featherweight champion says he is in the favour of a rematch with the current World Boxing Organisation super featherweight champion
of the world, Ricky Burns.
Alex ‘Amazing’ Arthur and Ricky ‘Rickster’ Burns faced each other previously in their 12-round bout for EBU super featherweight title and BBBofC British super featherweight title in February 2006 at the Meadow bank Sports Centre in Edinburgh, Scotland. Arthur
won unanimous points decision in the process. All the three judges gave the decision in his favour.
Arthur while in a search of a possible contender for his next fight revealed that he wants to turn to Burns again so that he could repeat his victorious celebrations again in a better way.
The 32-year-old orthodox boxer, Arthur fought 30 of his total fights of which he won 27 competitive bouts (including 20 knockout victories) with 3 losses and no draws in his professional career. He will be returning to the ring after a couple of his points
decision victories against Jay Morris in December 2010 and against Peter McDonagh in September 2010.
The 28-year-old Ricky Burns, who is the former Commonwealth super featherweight champion is scheduled to take on the 31-year-old British Nicky Cook in their 12-round WBO super featherweight title bout on July 16, 2011 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, United
States.
On the other hand Scottish national, super featherweight contender, Burns has won 31 bouts (including 8 knockout victories) with 8 losses and 2 draws in his professional boxing career. He is coming to the ring against Cook after 16 consecutive wins.
If both the pugilists agree on a bout, boxing fans will have a lot to cheer about the fight between Arthur and Burns. Let’s see how it transpires in the days to come.
