Hello there.

I intend to move to scotland next month and tryed to find some info about the cost of living there, but just find this info for students.

can someone help me giving some real numbers of how much a couple should expect to spend with rent (simple flat with kitchen, bathroom, livingroom and bedroom), food, public transportation, and bills (water, gas, heating, electricity, phone, cable tv, internet, council).

We are simple people and its very unlikely that we spend more then the average. I know it can change a lot, but you can at least give me an idea of what to expect.

Thank you very, very much.

  1. It varies but I've just moved to Edinburgh and you could realistically rent a flat for £400-500 per month.

    Bills - electricity & gas - £40-£50.

Council tax approx £100pm (varies by property). This includes water charges in Scotland.

Phone TV and internet can be bundled together if in a cable area -£10 to £50 depending on package. Plus TV licence £12 per month (£24 for first 6 months).

Edinburgh has unlimited bus travel for £35 per month. Other areas are more expensive I believe.

I pay £720 for my 1 bed flat inc bills but no phone (just use my mobile).

Food prices can be more expensive than the rest of UK espthe further North you go but the b1ig cities are pretty similar nowadays. Maybe £100 per week (maybe more)? I should know but I'm v bad at budgetting!
