Scottish duo happy with call up – Rugby News Update
Chris Cusiter, the 30-year-old Scotland scrum-half and Sean Lamont, the 31-year-old winger, who is equally adept at playing in the centre, are both ecstatic after they were named in the Scotland team to play Samoa in the last test of their tour.
Andy Robinson, the head coach of Scotland has given the nod to Cusiter and Lamont, which the two players were not expecting, and it was a surprise for both of them.
Cusiter possesses a strong running game, and he has been picked to tackle the Samoan dangerman, Kahn Fotuali'i, out of the game. The scrum-half has experience on his hands, as he has played 61 games for Scotland, making his debut against Wales at the Millennium
Stadium, on February 14, 2004. He has started 35 games for his country and has come on as a substitute a further 26 times.
"The rival scrum-halves know each other well from club meetings in the RaboDirect Pro12 - Fotuali'i plays for the Ospreys and Cusiter for Glasgow - and the Scot said: "Kahn Fotuali'i is a cracking player.”
"He has had a good year at the Ospreys, he played very well in their game against Japan the other day and is a key player for them.”
Lamont has knack of playing against Samoa, and he made his debut against the team at Wellington, on June 4, 2004. He also earned his 50th international cap against the Island nation, and he said that outside of the Six Nations, he has played the
most against Australia and Samoa.
The winger has natural pace and is a powerful runner, which will make it difficult for Samoa. He can run the lines, and score tries, which has been an Achilles heel for the Scots lately. However, the 67-time capped international feels that he can deliver
in the final match of the series.
Speaking about the opposition he said, "We know a lot of their players from European rugby and in general they are simply a more structured team than the Fiji side we faced last week…”
Both the players will be eager to impress and help Scotland achieve victory.
