  1. Edinburgh,

Glasgow is one of the most violent places in Britain with a very high crime rate

  2. I would say Edinburgh for two reasons:

    1. The city itself is much smaller, it is possible to live within walking distance of everywhere and it is easy to get to know almost the whole city without too much trouble.

    2. The English spoken in Edinburgh is much easier to understand than that in Glasgow, where the accent is often difficult to pick up and much more dialect is spoken.

  3. Edinburgh, its a great mulit cultural city with loads to do and loads of culture

Glasgow has a terrible reputation for crime

Also, Aberdeens good too if you havent looked into it, Robert Gordons University is one of the best in the UK

  4. Edinburgh, only because we have the dubious accolade of being called the most "English city" in Scotland (don't dare call me English though - i am Scots & proud of it).  If it is a case you want to learn English with the clearest diction though I would head for Inverness. They speak the best English in hte whole of the United Kingdom supposedly.

  5. No doubt, Edinburgh

I'm a welshman living in Edinburgh and the accent is much easier to understand than in Glasgow, also a lower crime rate and more historic sights to see in your time off.

Very friendly people and a beautiful little city.

I've been to Glasgow many times and worked with a lot of Glaswegians, the accent can be very hard going at times

  6. Here is a list of the top Scottish Universities in order of ranking:

Edinburgh as a town is a splendid city that has a great deal to offer in cultural terms but it is more expensive and accommodation is at a premium.

Glasgow is also good but some of the suburbs have acquired a bad reputation due to poverty, unemployment  and a high criminality rate. As in any large city, there are areas which are risky and one should avoid.

The University of Glasgow was voted the Sunday Times University of the Year for 2007. It is the Scottish university where there is the highest student satisfaction rate.

I have colleagues who teach there and neither they or their students have had any problems.

You should also consider St Andrews.

You ask specifically about Scotland and one assumes that you have your reasons for wanting to go there rather than to an English university. If you are coming from a non-English speaking country, you might find difficulties with the local accents. You might like Edinburgh  better as it is more cosmopolitan and the accent is easier to grasp.
