Scottish shooters on target
Scotland won two gold medals in the shooting competition of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Jen McIntosh topped the women's 50m rifle prone event while the pair of Neil Stirton and Jon Hammond ruled the men's 50m rifle prone pairs.
McIntosh scored a Games record 597 points to easily win the gold medal.
"It's absolutely fantastic. I'm very happy. My heart rate was very fast. How I managed I don't know." said the 19-year-old, who missed just three shots in the six series.
The win was also sweet for the Scot, who emulated her mother Shirley's feat at the 1994 Commonwealth Games.
India's Tejaswini Sawant settled for the silver medal with 594 points while Wales' Johanne Brekke claimed the bronze with a 593 final tally.
Stirton and Hammond made it a double victory for Scotland later in the day. The pair combined for a winning total of 1181 points, three ahead of silver medallists Mike Babb and Richard Wilson of England.
"It's just awesome. It was a bit of a fight today. It was hard work but we dug in there in windy conditions," said Hammond, who won his third medal of the Games.
"We have both been working hard for this and we're delighted to come away with the win," Stirton said.
Australia's Warren Potent and David Clifton pocketed the bronze medal with 1174.
India also had a successful outing as Annu Raj Singh and Heena Sidhu teamed up to win the women's 10m air pistol pairs. The duo scored 759 points as they finished the competition tied with Australians Dina Aspandiyarova and Pamela McKenzie and Canadians
Dorothy Ludwig and Lynda Hare. The Indians were awarded the gold after a count-back was made to break the tie.
"The score is a little less than it should have been, but it's okay for today," Sidhu said.
Singaporeans also rejoiced at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range after Gai Bin and Poh Lip Meng ruled the men's 25m standard pistol event. The pair combined for 1116 points to beat their counterparts from India and England.
"India has always had a stranglehold on this event. I am glad that as a team, we broke that streak in favour of Singapore. It feels good to have won my first gold medal here," Meng said.
Samresh Jung and Chandrasekhar Kumar Chaudhary finished second with 1103 while Mick Gault and Iqbal Ubhi placed third with 1098.
