Does anyone know how much is brand new scrap copper wire is worth. I work on a building site and i have a lot of left over wire.

Also, is copper wire worth more than copper pipe and copper boilers.

I would also like some tips about scraping metal such as copper. ie, so you have to strip the wire first or does the wire have to be clean, what is the least the scrap yard will take.

Why do scrap yard people by scrap metal anyway.

  1. Ask a copper scrap yard owner, most people here won't know.

  2. The amount of money for scrapped copper varies with the market value and can range from .30 per lb to $1.35 depending on the market you will have to call the scrap yard for their price. Bright and shiny copper (wire) is worth more than copper pipe. Check with your local scrap yard about what they accept some states do not allow you to strip the wire and others do. They will take insulated wire but the amount of money you recieve is less because of the weight adjustments made for the insulation.  Metals are recycled.
