Scrapbook Adhesive?

I am making a scrapbook for my fiance for our 1 year anniversary. I was wondering what you would say the best scrapbook adhesives are. I don't want the adhesive to be noticeable either like it would be with something like Elmer's runny glue, plus more for my money is definitely a plus. Any advice?

  1. First thing you should do is look for something that says "photo safe" or "acid free".  No matter what you use, you want it to be safe for your photos.

I use Hermafix Dotto.  It's a tape runner.  The runner is refillable and it comes in permanent or repositionable.  I like the repositionable because it gives you time to move things around before it becomes permanent.  You can get it at Wal-Mart, Target, and craft stores.  It's inexpensive and it works great.

For clear things, I have vellum tape (two sided clear adhesive) or I adhere them using staples, brads, or eyelets.

this is something that you should look for they go onto the back of your picture and are basically double sided tape.. you can buy it at any craft store, walmart, or even sometimes targets/kmarts.

  3. All of the above adhesives are great, but if you are scrapping anything that is see-thru or very thin - you can also use a glue stick.  They are just as good.  Tape runner stickers and glue dots are usually white in color - so if you don't want it to show thru - use the glue stick.

And by the way, right now at places like Wal-mart, Target, etc.. they are really inexpensive because of the back -to- school sales.  :P

  4. Although photo squares work well I really don't like using them. You have to peel them off, stick them on, then peel off the backing, x 4: one for each corner. Too time consuming and I hate throwing away those little tabs backings you peel off.

I prefer two sided tape runners. They give you more mobility and are much faster to use. The link below is just one of several to choose from. This brand also comes in removable, which allows you to pick up and move the photo if you have positioned it wrong.

Hobby Lobby has 50% off sales on their adhesives often.

  5. booboo answered your question, I just wanted to say What a wonderful gift for your fiance!  I hope he enjoys it!!!!!

  6. Removable Glue Dots  not messy and they are Acid Free. All crafts stores carry them ;)))

  7. There are a lot of different kinds. Some are really for a particular use and some are a good multi-purpose adhesive. Here is a partial list to guide you. :)

    TYPES:

-glue sticks (widely available by many brands) - doesn't work very well on vellum and I don't like it very much on heavy stuff

-photo squares or mounting squares (double sided adhesive tape cut into squares, widely available by many brands) Here are some brands: Fiskars, Scrapbook Adhesives - this is a good multi-purpose item, would definitely have on hand

-tape runner (a hand held dispenser applies a "tape" of adhesive to the paper-permanent, removable, vellum..., widely available by many brands) Here are some names: Mono Adhesive Permanent Bond or Removable Bond (made by Tombo), 3L E - Z Runner, Herma, Therm O, EK Success - good all purpose adhesive, more costly but is quick to use

-glue dots (a dot of adhesive that is pretty strong, use for attaching heavy things, widely available by many brands) Here are some brands: Glue Dots, EK Success, Therm O, K & Co. - would use these to hold heavy items, like embellishments, I wouldn't use these for just paper - good to have on hand though!

-double sided tape (a roll of double sided tape, you can get permanent or re-positionable: when it isn't permanent-this can allow you to try an image in a certain place before committing to it's location) Here are some brands: Therm O, K & Co., Art Accentz - multi purpose adhesive but I like photo squares better

-glue pen (starts out blue and becomes clear) Made by Zig 2 - can use on vellum and a few other things, more of a specialty item

-vellum tape (for use on vellum paper) Here are some brands: Scotch, K & Co. - good to have on hand if you work with vellum a lot

-foam dots (adhesive foam shapes for raising images) Here are some brands: EK Success - great if you want to raise an image or item up off the paper

-photo mounting tape (just like regular tape but for scrapbooking) Brand: Scotch - another adhesive but you can just use photo squares

-and then, of course, there is a Xyron machine(s) that can turn anything relatively flat into a sticker, it can laminate, and it can magnetize items (it just depends on what machine you get)

I know that was a lot of information but I wanted to help you with the different kinds. There are still other types out there, but how many can a girl list?!?!? :) Hope this helps you. Happy Scrapping!

  8. As a "pro" scrapper with many years experience, you should definitely visit creativememories.com and purchase their tape runners and "vellum" tape squares.  These are top quality adhesives that allow you to attach your pictures, paper, etc. and remove  over and over to place it again.  Regardless of how long it has been pasted, you can always "pluck" it up and restick again!  The vellum squares are clear for see-through papers and other items that require invisible adhesive.  Do not use any liquid adhesives as they will only warp your page as water would.

Good luck, and don't forget to have fun!

  9. I think Creative Memories have the best product out there! Hands down their photo albums are the BEST!

Oh~ what a great gift for your fiance. He will love it.

    Laurie

  10. I use tape runners which are double sided tape. I get them at Wal-Mart for less than $5.00. I also will buy the refill tape which is about $3.50 and gives two rolls of tape. I sometimes buy tape runners and refill packs from Creative Memories but they are more expensive.

Hope this helps and have fun.
