Scratch on my iPod? Question?

My ipod is my baby. I bring it everywhere. I noticed a 1 centimeter scratch on the cover by the keys in my pocket. Its noticable.. But its for music so its fine. I paid 300$ bucks for it though, So I was just wondering can this effect the performance or screen in the future? If you rub over it with your hand you cant feel how deep it is, but with your finger nail you can.

No, the screens are pretty tough.  It will be just fine.
