Scratch on outer side of camera lens?

i found a tiny minor scratch on the very edge of the lens of my camera...it is on the outside of the lens.....will the picture quality ever be affected?...and i heard that u wont find a difference in picture quality if the scratch is on the OUTSIDE of the camera lens....is this true?....i hav the canon powershot sd790

  1. its hard to answer this without seeing the scratch, but usually things like dust don't really affect your picture quality, so if it is similar in size to a dust particle, you should be ok since the camera can't focus on it anyways.


  2. ouch!! its really hard to say if it really affect your pic quality..

  3. A Minor scratch will not show but if the scratch was substantial and it's near the outer edge, it would show only at the widest aperture. As you stop down the lens, nothing would show. The worst place for a scratch is dead center. It would show at all apertures.

  4. It won't. I have a lens with a sizable nick on the front and it takes fine pictures as well.
