when i do my forwards scratch spin I can never get my foot around the other one all the way so I check out early and with my backwards scratch spin I start hopping while I'm spinning and I don't know how to fix it and all my private coach says is "that time it was better" (but I don't think they are) so how do I get my free leg around during my forwards and how do I stop hopping during my backwards? HELP!!!:O

  1. Scratch (forward): On your entrance edge (the one before you start spinning) hold it a long time. You shouldnt have to force yourself to spin, and when you hold the edge long enough, the spinning will happen. This will help you stay centered, so you can get that leg across.

Try to keep it slow enough so you dont have so much resitance geting into the positions, then once you get that you can speed it up.

Back scratch: When you hop, your trying to stay on that edge instead of switching. Also it can be a balance problem.

Again, hold that edge a long time. Look up on youtube the way people enter their back scratchs, and try to imitate it.

Also use your arms to help push yourself into the spin.

  2. Forward scratch spin: Ummm I think u have to pull it tighter. So after the backward cross over you just have to swing it to the front then pull it and cross ur leg.

Backward scratch spin: What blade r u using rite now?? U have to control the spin so it will be balance. Pull ur feet, arms(it really help me)...

well sorry if I'm wrong. Good luck!! =]

  3. well i would have to see ur spin so idk pull tighter?

  4. for the forward scratch, let each piece take time, don't try to rush everything, or you'll never be able to center.

I've done that hoppy thing a million times, its kind of to catch your balance so you can exit without falling over. Try doing the back spin and when you feel yourself starting to lose balace try to exit right then, not alowing yourself to hop.

I hope this helps! Happy skating!
